Calas de Mallorca is a residential area in the east of Mallorca belonging to the municipality of Manacor. The urbanisation is located on the lands of the old possessió de l’Hospitalet Vell, an area where there is an abundance of archaeological sites from the Talayotic period.
The modern urban nucleus began to be built in the 60s of the 20th century, during the tourism boom, taking advantage of the great natural beauty of these coasts. Calas de Mallorca includes the coves of Cala Antena, Es Domingo Gran and Es Domingo Petit (the latter two are sometimes grouped together as Cala Domingos).
Almost the entire urbanisation is made up of hotel complexes to which were later added villas (many of them now dedicated to holiday rentals), terraced houses and small blocks of flats. It has a population of barely 1,000 inhabitants, and its activity is entirely tourist-oriented.
Around the hotel offer, mainly three and four star establishments, a complementary offer of bars, restaurants and other tourist services has arisen. It has good public transport connections with Manacor and the nearby tourist resorts of Porto Cristo and Cala d’Or.
