Camp de Mar beach is a stretch of fine white sand 180 m long and up to 60 m wide located on the western coast of Mallorca, in the municipality of Andratx. The first hotel next to this beach was inaugurated in 1932, but it was replaced by a modern one in the 80s. From those years on, a small development of chalets and single-family houses grew, as well as more hotels.
Despite the urbanization of the surroundings, the hotels are far enough away from the shore so that their presence does not bother
On the left bank, the pine trees that cover the cliffs also hide many of the buildings, preserving a certain air of natural surroundings. In the middle of the beach crosses the mouth of a stream.
The waters of Camp de Mar are clean and calm, making it a good destination for families with children
It also has access enabled for people with reduced mobility.
In the middle of the small bay rises an islet, popularly known as Illeta, where a bar-restaurant has been built for more than 70 years. It is connected to the beach by a wooden walkway that serves as a jetty for the different boats that make tours of this part of the coast of Mallorca.
Camp de Mar has good conditions for anchoring, with a sand and seaweed bottom between 4 and 5 m deep.
Famous people from all over the world have resided in Camp de Mar. From the famous British spy Tomás Harris, who established his residence here in the 1940s, to the top model Claudia Schiffer, who for a long time maintained a family residence here, there are many who have appreciated the beauty and tranquility of the Andratx coast.
How to get to Camp de Mar
Access to Camp de Mar is very simple as it is perfectly signposted
From Palma we will take the Vía de Cintura Ma-20 towards Andratx and then join the Ma-1 highway. We will then continue along the Ma-1A towards Andratx. We will come to a crossroads where we will turn left, already following the directions for Camp de Mar.
Just after the bus stop there is a roundabout whose first exit indicates Es Camp de Mar, which takes us to the urbanization and hotels area, but to access the parking we must take the second exit, and immediately on the right we will see the access to free parking.
If we want to get to Camp de Mar by public transport, we must take line 102, which goes from the center of Palma to Puerto de Andratx. The beach is about 400 m from the bus stop.
In the surroundings of Camp de Mar, some hiking and cycling routes have been enabled, making it a good destination to visit by bicycle
The best option is to take the Ma-1C road, which goes from Palma to Palmanova and then continues to the urbanizations in the Puerto de Andratx area.
In almost all this route there are bike lanes. At the end of the so-called Paseo Calviá there is a flyover to access the bike path that runs parallel to the highway, until reaching Santa Ponsa. We will have to follow the indications to Paguera, and then we will find the signs to continue to Camp de Mar.
For those who want to get to Camp de Mar by boat, the best area to anchor is next to Illeta
Where the sand and algae bottom has a depth between 4 and 5 m. We must be careful not to block the entrance and exit channel of the swallows that make the tourist itineraries, and make sure that no south, southwest or west winds blow.
Services
As an eminently tourist area, Camp de Mar beach provides all the services that its visitors may require to spend a quiet and comfortable day at the beach.
It has hammock and umbrella rental service. Showers and toilets are also available, as well as a lifeguard service. There is also a children’s play area.
In addition to the picturesque Illeta restaurant there is a beach bar, as well as several restaurants at the back of the beach.
Activities
Swimming, sun, diving, cycling, hiking, drinking, shopping …
The main activity in Camp de Mar is swimming in its waters and relaxing in the sun on its fine sand. And to make the day more enjoyable, have an ice cream, a soft drink or a drink in one of the bars that surround it.
It is also a good place to snorkel, since you don’t have to go far into the sea to have a certain depth
You can also practice diving, and very close to the beach there is a school where you can rent equipment, and which also organizes outings in the nearby waters for different levels of experience.
The cliffs and hills that surround Camp de Mar provide a good opportunity for hiking
From here we can go to Puerto de Andratx, or in the opposite direction to Cap Andritxol. There we will find the Torre del Cap Andritxol, a fortress from the late sixteenth century relatively well preserved, but it is not possible to access the interior of it. However, the natural environment and the views from here justify the walk:

We have already seen that Camp de Mar is a destination where you can easily get there by bicycle, and it also offers several routes in its surroundings.
We can get to the nearby Cala Llamp, Cala Fornells and Caló d’en Monjo, or even Santa Ponsa. Without a doubt, a good variety of routes by duration and difficulty:
On the pedestrian promenade next to the Camp de Mar beach there is a good selection of craft shops, souvenirs, clothes …
In addition to the picturesque restaurant in La Illeta, we will also have a wide variety of restaurants for all tastes and prices: Spanish and international cuisine, bars, etc.
Lodging
Camp de Mar has a select offer of accommodation. Along the same beach there are four four-star hotels. Further afield there is a five-star hotel, in addition to the five-star golf club complex. There are also apartments and vacation rentals.
If we cannot find accommodation in Camp de Mar, in Puerto de Andratx we have more options. Here we can find 2, 3 and 4 star hotels, apartment complexes, and vacation rentals (apartments, chalets, villas). And if we also find nothing that suits us in Puerto de Andratx, in Paguera, an important tourist center less than 4 km away, there is a wide and varied hotel plant where we will surely find something that satisfies us.
